The Seattle Seahawks joined the NFL in 1976 as expansion team along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

They are in the West Division of the National Football Conference in the NFL.

The Seahawks play their homes game at CenturyLink Field (formerly Qwest Field), located south of downtown Sealtte, Washington. Their headquarters and practice facility, which is the (VMAC) Virginia Mason Athletic Center located in Renton, Washington.

The Seahawks VMAC facility is a privately funded on 19 acres adjacent to Lake Washington in Renton that has 4 full size football practice fields, 3 natural gas outdoors fields and 1 indoor Turf field.

As part of the 1970 AFL–NFL merger, the NFL began planning to expand from 26 to 28 teams.

In June 1972, the Seattle Professional Football Inc., a group of Seattle business and community leaders, announced its plans to acquire an NFL franchise for the City of Seattle.

On June 1974, the NFL gave the city an NFL football team.
Pete Rozelle NFL Commissioner announced that Lloyd W. Nordstrom, representing the Nordstrom family as majority ownerof the Seattle Seahawks. The Seattle Seahawks rumors are now owned by Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft.

The Seahawks are the only NFL football team that is based in the Pacific Northwest part of United States. They have attracted a wide range of fans from the states of Oregon, Montana, Idaho, and
Alaska, as well as Canadian fans in British Columbia and Alberta.

The Seattle Seahawks are the only NFL team to switch conferences and division twice in the post-merger era. In 1976, team began playing in the NFC West but switched conferences with the Buccaneers after one season and joined the AFC West.

This realignment was part of the leagues 1976 expansion plan, so that both expansion teams could play each other twice and every other NFL team once and (the teams in their conference at that time) during their first two seasons.

and "12s". The Seahawks' fans have twice set the Guinness book of World Record for the loudest crowd noise at a sporting event two times.

during a Monday Night Football game against the New Orleans Saints.
